Channel licences, activating a DR with a voucher

Where you see the licences your distributor bought for you, how you spend them when setting up a DR and how you renew before they expire.

If you buy your plans from a distributor rather than from Sefthy, a DR is not paid by card at activation time. The distributor buys the licences and makes them available in your Console, and you spend them when you need them.

Where the licences are

  1. In the left menu open Licenses.
  2. At the top you get the count, how many licences are already assigned and how many are left to assign.
  3. Below there are two tables, To assign and Assigned.

The To assign table lists the free licences with code, plan, duration in months, arrival date and auto-activation date. The Assigned one says which DR each licence went to, how long it covers and whether it was a renewal.

One licence, one DR

Every licence is good for one plan and one Disaster Recovery. Once you spend it, it sticks to that DR and never comes back, not even if the DR is deleted. A 12, 24 or 36 month licence is not a credit you draw down, it is the coverage of that single service for those months.

If you do not spend it, after two months it activates on its own. The date is in the Auto-activation column. From then on it counts as active towards the distributor, but it stays spendable on a DR.

Spending it when you activate a DR

  1. On the licence row click Use in setup, or open the setup of a new DR the usual way.
  2. Pick the customer and the region.
  3. In the plan step every card shows how many licences you have for that plan. Cards with no licence stay off with a padlock. The Sefthy TRIAL plan is not available on the distribution channel.
  4. Under the cards you get License to use. Select the code you want to spend.
  5. Confirm. The DR is created and the licence is attached in the same moment.

You are never asked for a payment method and there is no price summary, the rest of the path is the same one described in The DR wizard with the Sefthy Agent.

Expiry and suspension

The coverage of a DR is the furthest expiry date among the licences you spent on it. At 30, 7 and 2 days from expiry Sefthy sends a mail to the partner users of your account, subject “The license of DR name expires in N days”. It is a service mail, you cannot switch it off from the notification preferences.

At expiry, with no renewal, the DR is suspended. It stays visible in the list but no action works any more, so no manual backup, no scheduling, no restore. While you have a suspended DR the button to activate new ones disappears too. The DR is not deleted automatically, after fifteen days of suspension it only raises an internal flag at Sefthy.

Renewing with a new licence

  1. In the To assign table click Chain to a DR on the licence you want to use.
  2. In the modal pick the DR to renew. Only DRs on the same plan, already licensed through this channel, show up.
  3. Click Chain.

The months are queued after the current expiry, so renewing early costs you nothing. If the DR was suspended, the renewal brings it back straight away.

When the Console refuses, the reason is written under the selector. The plan of the licence has to match the plan of the DR, and a code already attached to another DR cannot be reused.
